Julio le Parc: Nara Roesler at Anton Kern WINDOW
Nara Roesler and Anton Kern Gallery are pleased to present Julio Le Parc at WINDOW, on view from June 26 through July 31, 2026, at 91 Walker Street in Tribeca, New York. Presented as part of the year-long collaboration between Nara Roesler and Anton Kern Gallery, the exhibition brings together five works by Julio Le Parc: Sphère rouge (2013), a sculpture composed of translucent red acrylic plates and nylon, measuring 78 3/4 inches in diameter, and four acrylicon-canvas paintings from the Ensemble couleur, Étape series (2022). Together, the works foreground enduring concerns in Le Parc’s practice: movement, colour, and the activation of perception. Le Parc’s presentation is the second of three exhibitions Nara Roesler is presenting at WINDOW in 2026, following Thiago Barbalho’s project in March. Sphère rouge extends Le Parc’s longstanding investigation into real movement. Beginning in the early 1960s, the artist developed works with lightweight suspended elements that julio le parc window respond to subtle changes in their surroundings. Through shifts in light, air, and the viewer’s position, these works produce visual experiences that are never fixed, making perception itself an active part of the work.
The paintings from the Ensemble couleur, Étape series continue another central line of inquiry within Le Parc’s practice: colour. Drawing from a palette of fourteen hues developed by the artist over decades, they explore the visual effects generated by chromatic combinations within structured geometric arrangements. Their rhythms and optical effects suggest movement and spatial depth, extending Le Parc’s lifelong research into perception. Together, the sculpture from 2013 and the paintings from 2022 demonstrate the continued vitality of these investigations in the later years of his career.
Opening shortly after the artist’s passing on May 30, 2026, the presentation offers an opportunity to revisit a body of work that profoundly transformed the relationship between artwork and viewer. Throughout a career spanning more than seven decades, the Argentine-born artist challenged traditional artistic conventions through pioneering explorations of light, movement, participation, and perception. As a co-founder of the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV), he helped expand the role of the viewer in the artistic experience and redefine the possibilities of contemporary art.
Nara Roesler began working with Julio Le Parc in 1999, when the artist participated in the Mercosur Biennial in Porto Alegre with a major solo exhibition. In 2001, he held his first exhibition at the gallery, which subsequently began representing him. Since then, Nara Roesler has organized eighteen exhibitions dedicated to his work across its spaces in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and New York, as well as presentations at major international art fairs. Over the past twenty-seven years, their professional relationship evolved into a deep friendship, marked by mutual respect and a shared commitment to bringing his work to diverse audiences and generations.
The presentation coincides with Julio Le Parc: Light. Colour. Action. at Tate Modern, London, on view from June 11, 2026, through May 3, 2027. Among the works featured in the exhibition is Sphère bleue (2022), a series previously presented by Nara Roesler in São Paulo. At WINDOW, Sphère rouge (2013), from the same series, is presented in the space’s streetfacing vitrine, establishing a dialogue between the two works. Reflecting on his passing, Nara Roesler stated: “Julio was not only a master of kinetic art, but also a generous soul who inspired and guided those around him. His conversations, filled with ideas, and his innovative vision constantly reminded us of art’s power to connect and transform us. In this moment of sorrow, I cherish the moments we shared, the laughter, and the exchanges that enriched us all. His presence will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on through his works and in the memories we carry.”
