COSMIC ORDER: Lentos Kunstmuseum, Linz, AT

February 7 - May 4, 2020
Overview

The exhibition at the Lentos will see international artists who are specialists in woodcarving working on large scale sculptures. What makes this project special are the opportunities it offers for participation and interaction. It is a unique feature of Althamer’s approach to art that the cooperative processes involved in an artwork and its genesis are more important to him than the finished product. In this exhibition, these processes unfold in a landscape that is inspired by the Dogon culture. At the same time, the landscape will be affected by these processes. The exhibition setting is modelled on the participating artists’ countries of origin (Austria, Poland, Mali).

Paweł Althamer, born in Warsaw in 1967, lives and works in the Polish capital. He was Professor of Sculpture at Vienna’s Academy of Fine Arts (2009 – 2011). Venues that have put works by Althamer on display include documenta X, Manifesta 3 in Ljubljana, Skulptur Projekte Münster, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Venice Biennale and, most recently, a large solo exhibition at HAM in Helsinki (2019).

Participating artists: Bruno Althamer, Youssouf Dara, Józef Gałązka, Piotr Grzegorek, Camille Holowka and others
