“I am searching for the meditative state in painting. Unearthing harmonies in color, composition, and form. I am exploring issues of mortality, class structures, and freedom in my work. I know that a picture is complete when there’s a sense of stillness and oneness achieved, then I can move forward.” -Marcus Jahmal

For the ADAA Art Show 2022, Anton Kern Gallery presents a solo exhibition of new paintings by Marcus Jahmal. All created in the second half of 2022, these new paintings offer Jahmal’s fresh perspective. There is never a clear message or answer in his work: the meaning is in the process, and in the experience of making and looking. The paintings embrace the complexity and ambiguity of humanity.
