TARGETS
During the research process for the production of ALVOS, I came across some samples of targets used in shooting ranges. I was struck by a load of violence contained in these figures in 'decomposition' after the shots they received - images of bodies that never lived but died violently. The targets used in shooting academies are an uncomfortable and disturbing element at a time when violence spreads frighteningly and turns against determined, as well as random.
The video Alvos was recorded in one of the rooms at this shooting ranges in São Paulo, in September of 2017, and during which I put the target figure as a mask on my own face. What stood out in this image is the fact that the point that directs the shot is situated over the mouth. This symbolic connection with the tongue and language interested me. The Language and communication under attack and risk of interdiction, the crisis of communication, and symbolic violence.
