The Art Gallery of New South Wales commissioned Francis Upritchard as one of the artists to create major new works for its transformed art museum campus, which opened on December 3 to the public.
Three monumental figures, collectively titled Here Comes Everybody, inspired by mythology and folklore – and Sydney Harbour's Moreton Bay fig trees – now greet visitors at the Museum's new Welcome Plaza, enticing guests of all ages. The sculptures – which she brought to life in her Italian studio – create a place where fact and fiction combine to create a new reality. The artist notes, “As you approach them, my long and improbable mystical creatures invite intrigue and wonder: who are they, what are they doing and how do I respond to them?"
