Displayed curated by Matthew Higgs, July 2 - August 22, 2014
Press for Displayed:
"Besides being aesthetically racy, “Displayed” is socially astute and downright
metaphysical, bringing an old puzzle of perception—do we behold,
chiefly, the dancer or the dance?"
— The New Yorker
"'Displayed' alights on the mind like a strange no-brainer, getting you to think about something you didn't know you needed to think about: that photos of objects or even paintings are like shelves full of stuff, platforms for reframing thought."
— Saltz, Jerry. "See Displayed," New York Magazine, July 30 - August 12, 2014.
Johnson, Ken. "'Displayed' at the Anton Kern Gallery," The New York Times, July 24, 2014.
"These are works that are at least partially aware of themselves in the world, as objects of delectation, as things to be viewed, debated, traded and savored. They’re putting their best foot forward, knowingly, playfully objectifying themselves."
— Russeth, Andrew. "'Displayed' at Anton Kern Gallery," Gallerist NY, July 23, 2014.
Boucher, Brian. "Displayed," Art In America, July 24, 2014.
